In a large skillet cook garlic and onion with beef until beef is no longer
pink; drain off fat and add spaghetti sauce and seasonings; simmer 5
minutes. Use in following recipes or chill and freeze in bags or
containers for individual recipes or servings.
Not So Sloppy Joe's
Add ¼ cup (50 mL) EACH of chopped celery and green pepper to
basic mixture. Heat thoroughly and serve over toasted bread or
on a bun. Makes 4 to 6 servings.
Italian Topped Potatoes
Microwave 4 baking potatoes. Cut potatoes in a cross and squeeze to open,
top with basic or Sloppy Joe mixture (above). Serve with a garden salad
or vegetables of your choice.
Easy Pizza Slices
Slice a 14 inch (35 cm) loaf of Italian bread, in half, lengthwise. Top
each side with warm Sloppy Joe mixture (above) and ½ cup (125 mL)
EACH of shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese. Place on a baking sheet
and broil until cheese melts.
TIP: Instead of Italian bread, the same mixture can be put
on a 12 inch (30 cm) pre-baked pizza or flat bread crust. Add your
favourite pizza toppings such as green or red pepper, place on a baking
sheet; broil until cheese melts.
