Prep Time: 10 - 15 min. Cook Time: 1 hour
 
1 lb 500 g INSIDE ROUND or SIRLOIN TIP STEAK, cut in ¾" (1.5 cm) cubes
1 1 onion, chopped
1 tbsp 15 mL vegetable oil
1 1 can (19 oz/540 mL)* chili-style stewed tomatoes
1 1 can (14 oz/398 mL) can kidney beans (DO NOT DRAIN)
1 1 green pepper, chopped
¾ cup 175 mL converted rice
1 cup 250 mL water
1 tbsp 15 mL cocoa powder

Brown beef and onion in oil in large skillet or saucepan over high heat. Stir in remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer for at least 45 minutes or until beef is tender. Serve with tortillas, taco chips or crusty rolls and a salad. If you like it spicier, you can "turn up the heat" on this recipe by adding hot sauce. This chili is even better when reheated and served the next day.

* Substitute with 2 - 14 oz/398 mL can chili style stewed tomatoes if more readily available.

Time Saver: If you're in a rush, substitute ground beef for the steak and this recipe can be ready in less than 30 minutes.

Makes 4 to 6 servings.
