Gen Y Learns to Cook!
Health Canada has tracked a lack of confidence and "deskilling" when it comes to home-cooking, recognizing that this has adverse impacts on food choice, health and nutrition. As a result of their findings, there is a movement afoot to get food skills back into our school curriculum. Hooray!
To address the concern, Canada Beef took this first step – we got cooking with a great group of Gen Y’s at Brescia University (part of the University of Western Ontario). The challenge we issued to a class of 3rd year dietitian students was recipe development – a hands-on experience of how their nutrition knowledge might be applied when working in the food business.
They had fun, we had fun and we all learned a lot. Read all about it in their blog post, try out their recipes here and pass them on to your own Gen Y’s as they head off to school this year.
Happy cooking with Canadian beef
