Know your farmer, Know your food

With fall, comes fall-fairs – just about the best time for urban and rural folk to meet up and celebrate the bounty of the harvest. It is the perfect place to see just who is responsible for getting much of our good food to the table. At the Royal Winter Fair last weekend, you could sense the pride and commitment of the farmers – the 4-H Group, (an international rural youth development group), was loud and proud as they celebrated their 100th birthday. For a shining example of farmer commitment, just read the 4-H Pledge here – which is said at each and every 4-H youth meeting. It’s a heartfelt promise, that is as relevant now as it was 100 years ago. Words to live by – posted on a wall of the 4-H cattle stall.
