Protein
Beef continues to be the #1 protein consumed in Canada. It has all 20 amino acids needed to make a complete protein. Protein does many things to keep the body strong and healthy. It makes hormones, and builds and repairs muscles.
Eating Well with Canada's Food Guide recommends eating 1-3 servings of Meat & Alternatives each day.
B vitamins
Beef contains all five B-complex vitamins - thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, B6 and B12.
Thiamin, riboflavin, niacin and vitamin B6 assist the body to turn food into energy. They also help you grow and maintain healthy skin, eyes, appetite and central nervous system.
Vitamin B12
The only reliable source of this vitamin is animal products like meat, fish, poultry, eggs and milk. This vitamin is essential for the normal functioning of the brain and central nervous system. Beef is an excellent source of vitamin B12.
