The Smoking Gun

Quickly infuse food with smoky flavor and aroma.

So much of what we eat is first sensed with the nose. How often have you heard or used the phrase “That smells delicious”. Cooking with meat is no different—the mere waft of smoke from a neighbour’s barbecue can get the mouth watering. Real barbecue enthusiasts will introduce smoke flavour to their grill by burning fragrant woodchips like hickory, mesquite, alder or cedar or even grapevine, apple and cherry. Some will even go so far to employ smokers where meat is slowly smoked with wet scented wood for several hours.

Now weekend grillers can quickly infuse their meat with smoky flavour and aroma with a new gadget aptly called the “smoking gun”. Simply fill a small bowl with your choice of preferred wood, ignite and the “gun” will direct the smoke to wherever you need it – food in a bowl covered with plastic wrap is recommended.

Alternatively, the manufacturer suggests “flavouring” your dining area with scented smoke. Also sounds like a great gift for those wanna-be outdoor grillers who are trapped in apartments or condominiums. At $49, it’s a must have gadget alongside the remote digital thermometer.
