Canadian Consumption
Eating Well with Canada’s Food Guide recommends children consume 1-2 servings of Meat and Alternatives and teens and adults consume 2-3 servings a day.
According to Statistics Canada’s Canadian Community Health Survey 2.2, total average red meat consumption for all Canadians is within the Food Guide recommendations (see table below).
Practice Point
One Food Guide serving of beef is 75 grams, or the size of two lipsticks. Use the lipstick guide – especially with your female clients – it is more accurate than the ‘deck of cards’ reference.
