Nutrition Labelling for Beef Cuts
 |
Raw single ingredient beef cuts are exempt from nutrition labelling at this time due to some unique challenges. Retailers can provide nutrition information on a voluntary basis, but must comply with the regulations for nutrition labelling.
BIC is striving to develop solutions to these challenges.
Nutrition labelling is mandatory for all value added products such as marinated beef strips by December 12, 2005. In this case, a value added product is defined as one which has more than one ingredient.
There are some exemptions to this regulation.
To obtain values for the Nutrition Facts tables for value added products, the retailer may have to arrange for testing of the product by an independent laboratory with expertise in nutrition labelling.
