Better Bites for Tiny Tots

We all want to eat smarter – especially when feeding our children. Here are some easy ways to make every bite count for your little ones:

  • Sneak veggies in under the radar. Add finely shredded, chopped or pureed carrot, beans, spinach or sweet peppers to raw ground beef when making burgers, meatballs or meat loaf.
  • Punch up the protein! Slip beans, lentils or cooked ground beef into quesadillas, casseroles, soups or salads to add a protein punch.
  • Make it mini. Kids love finger foods - mini meatballs, cubes of cheese, baby carrots, chunks of apple and whole grain crackers make for a kid-friendly buffet. Mini burgers are a fun option for kids and parents alike!
  • Boost the Fibre! Use whole-wheat pasta or brown rice in place of the white stuff in your spaghetti or stir-fries. Along with fibre, whole grains are chock full of vitamins and minerals.
  • Dip it! Your kids might enjoy healthy choices more if they can dip them in some tasty sides - barbeque sauce for steak, yogurt for fruit, salsa for veggies.
