Good for You Fast Food!

Burgers are often misunderstood nutritionally. Lean ground beef is part of a healthy diet and hamburgers are nutrient-rich which means they provide a lot of nutrients like protein, vitamins and minerals per calorie. Here are some super tips to make that burger meal even better:

Tips for Toppings

  • Pack flavour and not calories with mustard, ketchup, hot peppers or pickles.
  • Load up the veggies - fresh tomatoes, onion, lettuce, and cucumber.
  • Leave the mayo, sauce or bacon off your burger and save 20 to 80 calories.

Chew on This!

A plain beef burger has 1/3 more nutrients per calorie than a plain chicken fillet sandwich.

Healthy Kid Combos

  • Substitute the fries with your burger. Choose a side salad, apple slices or baked potato instead.
  • Ask for a whole wheat bun for burgers.
  • Skip the pop - ask for water, milk (white or chocolate) or 100% fruit juice.
  • Try a yogurt parfait or fresh fruit options for dessert.

Size Matters

  • Walk away from super sizing - there is nothing super about it!
  • Ask for the small fries instead of large and save 60 to 330 calories.
  • Share with a friend - or ask for kids' portions.
  • Save 104 to 170 calories with a small pop instead of a large. Better yet, choose water or milk.
  • Choose a regular burger instead of a deluxe and say goodbye to between 70 and 280 calories.
